How does chiropractic work?
Your body is a self-healing self-regulating organism controlled by your nervous system. Science has proven the signals flow through your nervous system can become interfered with or disrupted when a problem in a joint (especially the spine) has occurred. Chiropractic treatment helps to restore this communication between your body and your brain thus helping you heal naturally.
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
I perform a thorough exam on all potential chiropractic patients. During this exam I would be able to identify the rare occasion in which chiropractic care might be unsuitable. Statistics show chiropractic adjustments are around 100 times safer than taking over-the-counter pain relievers. I also have extremely gentle treatment options available to my patients that decreases any risk or concern.
Will adjustments loosen my spine?
I often have patients who ask me “will adjustments make my spine loose?” In short, NO. I only adjust the spinal joints that are “locked up”. Adjusting the "locked up" spinal joints allows the weakened muscles & ligaments to stabilize and heal, helping them to feel better and provide much needed relief to my patients.
How many adjustments will I need?
The number of adjustments varies with each patient and their health goals. After a through exam and x-rays (if needed), I will discuss a recommended treatment plan. When the recommended treatment plan is followed many patients see progress within one to two weeks. In chronic cases, complete healing may take longer. How long you continue treatment and benefit from chiropractic care is up to you.
Do I have a pinched nerve?
Often times I have patients come in to my office saying they think they have a pinched nerve. When in fact a pinched nerve is actually rare. It is more likely that an adjacent spinal bone irritates, rubs, stretches, or chafes a nerve. These subluxations distort the nerve messages between the brain and the body creating an unhealthy environment and / or joint mobility.
How do you get subluxations?
A subluxation is the joint misalignment that interferes with your nervous system and the range of motion of the affected joint. These joint misalignments occur from three types of stress physical, chemical, and emotional.
slip and falls
How do I know If I have a subluxation?
You can have a subluxation and not even know it. Not unlike the early stages of tooth decay, subluxations may be present before warning signs appear. You should get checked regularly to treat these problems before they worsen.
back / neck pain
pain in the shoulders
stiffness of the back / neck
numbness / tingling in the hands or feet
Can I have chiropractic care after back or other joint surgery?
I work with your treating physician so you can rest assured that I will avoid the surgically modified areas. Surgery often causes instability above or below the involved level or extremity. These areas will be the focus of your chiropractic care.
I have Osteoporosis, can I get chiropractic care?
Yes, when I develop your care plan, I consider all the unique circumstances. I then discuss the proper treatment method with you. We then determine and gently initiate the agreed upon treatment.
What happens when I’ve completed my treatment?
After your care is completed and you’ve obtained the relief you want, I recommend that you continue with periodic preventative care. The reason why I suggest this is while you may feel great, a checkup every so often helps prevent issues from reoccurring or happening in the first place.
